Feng Shui for Your Office

Applying Feng Shui principles to your office can help boost your productivity and overall success. Whether you work in a company or have a home office, there are a few simple things you can do today to optimize your workspace:

  1. Place your desk in the commanding position. Ideally, your desk should not be directly in line with your office door, you should be able to see the door when sitting at your desk and have a solid wall behind you for support. If you have your back to the door when sitting at your desk, you can try placing a mirror on your desk to reflect the door. Being in the commanding position will allow you to be in control, which can boost your confidence and overall work quality.
  2. Using appropriate artwork in your office can have great benefits, like framing and hanging your diplomas on the wall. You could also hang a picture of a mountain behind you for optimal support and grounding. Try to avoid pictures denoting stillness or failure, like anchored or sinking ships. Instead, you want to choose artwork that embodies success, growth, and expansion to instill the same qualities in your work or business.
  3. Having plants in your office is always a good idea. Live plants bring in positive chi (energy) and purify the surrounding air. You could bring in a small money tree or lucky bamboo and place it on your desk for example.
  4. If you are working in an office space, you could also apply the Bagua map to your office or cubicle and apply the Intentional Feng Shui principles to your workspace. You could place a small globe in the Travel area for professional growth, some money in the Wealth area and so on.
  5. As always, try to keep your office free of clutter. Every day before leaving, have a quick tidying up session and put away anything that can be filed or stored. That way, when you come in the next day, your desk will be ready for you to start being productive right away instead of having to sort through things and wasting time to find what you’re looking for.

These simple tips can be implemented rather quickly and can make a huge difference in your day to day work. We now spend most of our time in our office, 5 days a week, so it’s more important than ever to have a space that will allow you to thrive in your work and achieve your goals!
